The town of Kasane, built on the banks of the majestic Chobe River, is one of Botswana’s most undervalued tourist destinations. It has incredible natural beauty and historical value and offers tourists a unique African experience of game viewing.
However, until recently, the town has remained relatively undeveloped. This is set to change over the next decade as much of the town centre is planned to be redeveloped and upgraded to give it the world-class quality it needs to attract a larger share of the foreign tourist market. The development also aims to increase visits from local tourists and, most importantly, provide local residents with much needed public open space that will in itself act as a catalyst for increased economic growth. A sensitive approach is taken towards the design and implementation of the project so that existing built and natural features are protected and enhanced while making them more accessible to the local community as well as local and international visitors.
